Who are dark skin, they post photo shopped or edited pictures of dark skin women in skimpy clothes? You can go on flickr or myspace and find regular pictures of beautiful dark skin women. I think that completely defeats the purpose of even showing that black is beautiful since those people are biracial. Everyone loves throwing pictures of Halle Berry and Alicia Keys up when they talk about beautiful black women but these women are not even all black. I get so embarrassed when black people do this. I wonder if they use these people as examples because they don't think full black people are attractive enough. Are Beautiful Black Women Intimidating?
I just had an experience at the local 711. I ran into a man inside of the store who said I was beautiful. He wasn't shy about it at all lol. I didn't feel threatened because he showed respect and seemed genuinely nice. Asked if I had a man and whatnot. I then said yes. Then he said he just wanted to let me know I was beautiful. I realize that the majority of this country has been conditioned to not appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of black women. I recieved this compliment from a black man by the way. Anywho, I proceed to go ahead and pay for my grapefruit juice and the man at the counter East Indian is laughing saying " he probably say's that to all the girls hahaha" . I smile and keep quiet. The vibe i got from the man who was ringing up my juice was basically 'you aren't really beautiful he is just desperate'. I realize what I look like and I get compliments on my looks all of the time. This is just my reality and I have no issue embracing my beauty. I also don't think I am better than anyone else and I am quick to respect and admire beauty in other women.The fact that this man tried to downplay it disturbs me i mean this in the least Narcissistic way lol . But I have come across many non black people who are almost offended by the presence of a gorgeous beautiful intelligent black woman because it kills whatever preconcieved notion they have about black women. Many are led to believe black women are not attractive and when they face a clearly gorgeous black woman they have to rethink and realize there is no truth to that stereotype. I am also darkskinned with dreads. It seems people feel uncomfortable accepting different types of beauty.So do you think certain people are intimidated by beautiful black women? Women who kill and stomp on whatever stereotype they have about black women? This isn't the first time I have had this experience by the way.This a daily thing for me lol. It seems that people are constantly looking for a common thread between their illinformed notion of a black woman and me, a black 22y.o woman. It almost always seems they become agitated at the fact I don't represent what they think or assume I should represent lol. I've dealt with this at my college workplace etc... I worked for Wet Seal a couple of years ago. I was ringing up clothing for this lady white woman who stated I was gorgeous. She then proceeded to ask my manager " Isn't she beautiful?" My manager white woman said in a smug undertone " I guess" lol... the lady then looked at me shook her head lol. I guess I don't understand why all types of beauty isn't accepted because whether you believe it or not beauty comes in all skin colors hair textures etc... end rant lol...
